Bowling

The first annual WiredViews Bowlympics Tournament was held this past weekend.  Up for grabs was two months of having your car windshield scraped clean of ice and snow by the losing team.  Also on the line, and arguably more important, was pride. “Pride is a word you hear a lot around the WiredViews’ offices”, Tipton of team Mifflin said. “Pride in our code, our customer satisfaction, and pride in our bowling”.  The showdown took place hours later on a cold and snowy Friday afternoon, and for Team Mifflin it would be a rollercoaster ride of emotions.

It had been a while since some members of Team Dunder had been to the lanes, but they received a warm homecoming. Before the start of game one, Heiser received some motivation from fellow teammate Shahan. “He told me if I was ever going to win a tournament to win this one for him”, Heiser reported. The speech must have hit home.

In the first game Team Mifflin jumped out to a 60 pin lead, led by a surging Ravine who was coming off of a high game performance the previous week. His ensuing meltdown may have cost Mifflin the tournament.

In the 2nd game Dunder overcame the 60 pin deficit to take a 5 point lead into the final game. A large factor was Collins who tripled her score from the first game. She had this to say, “I attacked the lanes completely wrong the first game. I got really fooled in practice and was too far inside. I had the right ball, I was just in the wrong spot, but once I moved right I was okay.”

Team Mifflin began the final game with Gilbert firing a rocket to complete an opening series of strikes. However, Team Dunder had no problem rising to the occasion (TWSS). Heiser finished game 3 with a 169 score, helping Shahan (197) put the dagger in the faltering Team Mifflin. “Today was good for me. In the first two games I played inside and in the last game I was going as straight as I could and taking my hand out of the ball”, Heiser said. His 461 series was beat only by teammate Shahan who led all bowlers with a 548.

It didn’t set in until it was all over,” Shahan said of winning the tournament.  “Gilbert said ‘we’ll start in January,’ and then it just sunk in how big it actually was. I can’t even come close to thinking how great this is going to be.”
